Finding a Passion

This wasn't the plan. One year ago I never imagined falling in love with a craft. I've always been creative, taking art classes, drawing, pouring over magazines, but nothing had ever felt like this.

Like most who have read the book The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs I had an uncontrollable urge to knit. I went to my local Michaels craft store, bought a colorful ball of yarn, some bamboo knitting needles, and cozied up with YouTube. There are so many instructional videos out there! (Along with YouTube teaching me to knit, I have also learned how to poach an egg and french braid my hair, but that is for another time.) I found a basic knitting video and cast on my first stitches. At that moment it was as if the heavens opened up and a chorus of angels began to sing "Hallelujah!!!".....

NOT!

Knitting was not as easy as I thought it would be. In a moment of frustration I'm pretty sure I threw my needles across the room...no that wasn't me...;-). After multiple tries I finally got a couple rows to look normal, so I just kept going. In a couple days I had a piece long enough for a scarf! I couldn't believe it! My very first scarf!!!

From that moment on I have devoured anything and everything to do with knitting. Books, magazines, blogs, podcasts...so much inspiration! I have also taught myself to crochet and I just opened up a shop on Etsy! Yarn crafting has become such an unexpected passion for me, and I can't wait to continue to learn more about these amazing crafts. I also want to meet some equally passionate knitters out there! Where will this craft take me in another year? Who knows...
